It might seem strange to post an article about the relationship between sound (vibration) and structure, but these are in fact, the fundamental basis through which acupuncture (and other energy-medicine therapies) work.

Whilst there are plenty of bio-medical reasons that can describe in part, how acupuncture might be working, for over 2500 years, the ancient Chinese knew that there was an organised ‘patterning’ of nature (and we are of course, part of that living nature).

When we respond to the environment around us, to the interactions with people in that environment and to situations experienced in that environment, we are living ‘naturally’ and in tune with nature. The interaction of light, smell, touch and sound creates unseen resonances, or vibrations through us – watching the video which brilliantly shows the science of cymatics, you see the influence perceivable sound has on particles, including water (of which makes up around 60% of the average adult male and 55% of the adult female*)…and that’s only what is perceivable with our ears, so you can imagine how the sounds around us are constantly influencing us on a cellular level.

However, when we find ourselves reacting to any of those interactions, we can set up a distortion in our original patterning of energy (which we call Qi) which can create imbalances in the flow of energy through our system and influence our organ function to create disease. Acupuncture treatment influences a persons ‘Qi-pattern’ (you could say; their organised matrix of vibration) to bring it back to its original pattern in order to return a person to their original condition of wholeness and wellness.

Questions about specific conditions and how acupuncture may help

People find acupuncture can bring relief for all sorts of health problems and find it can help to maintain overall well-being during times of heightened stress.

Please take a look at the Research Fact Sheets page, produced by the British Acupuncture Council. These fact sheets show good quality research trials, highlighting how acupuncture may be affecting the body’s nervous system, endocrine system and circulation to restore health.

If you are interested in what patients have to say about their experience of acupuncture, please read the comments on the Patient Experiences page.
